Capturing YouTube Vevo Music Videos

Capturing YouTube Vevo Music Videos

Update 18 Nov 2020:  We have reinstated access as per https://github.blog/2020-11-16-standing-up-for-developers-youtube-dl-is-back/ and https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2020/11/2020-11-16-RIAA-reversal-effletter.pdf and continue to monitor the situation.

As has always been the case Jaksta recording products are not intended for use in circumventing copy protection mechanisms or making illegal copies for copyright content.

4 Nov 2020:  The RIAA has recently targeted YouTube video downloaders with DMCA takedown notices for bypassing what they consider to be a copy protection mechanism.  As an example, the very popular open-source command-line tool, youtube-dl has been removed from github.  If you are interested google "youtube-dl DMCA"

As Jaksta recording products are not intended for use in circumventing copy protection mechanisms, we have disabled the capture of YouTube videos using the Extraction capture method (Enter or Drag and Drop the URL of a video page to download), where the video uses what the RIAA considers to be a copy protection mechanism.  These are mainly Vevo music videos.  The majority of videos on YouTube will be unaffected by this change.

Jaksta Media Recorder is still able to capture these video's in AUTO and DVR mode.  AUTO mode simply plays back the stream URLs used by the browser and DVR mode uses sophisticated screen recording technology.  Neither therefore circumvent any copy protection mechanisms on a stream.

To enable AUTO mode to capture these videos without pushing them to the extractor some configuration changes to JMR are required.

Go to: Settings > Internet Downloads > Advanced > Extractor and remove all youtube entries from "The following urls will be passed to the Extraction Engine" list and the googlevideo.com entry from "The following media urls will be ignored" list so it looks similar to the following.
